About the Artist
Russell Herron
British, b. 1967
British, b. 1967
Russell Herron has been producing art since 1992 and his output has largely been conceptual. Since 2015, however, he have been concentrating solely on drawing, attempting to negotiate a route through this medium. His cardboard portraits reflect an interest in thinking about portraiture, identity and the act of looking. Meticulously rendered in pencil, each drawing is made from an original photo of a ‘face’ made by cutting, tearing into, or drawing on, found cardboard. They are an ongoing series. Russell's work can be found in private collections all over the world. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across the UK and Europe including The Royal Academy Summer Show, the INC Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries and 'Draw 19', Society of Graphic Fine Art, Menier Gallery, London. A cardboard portrait from this series has just been selected for the Derwent Art Prize, coming up in London in April 2020, then touring to Paris in May 2020.
