Natalya Mougenot
French, b. 1981
Born in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, and now based in Lyon, France, Natalya Mougenot is a contemporary artist and photographer whose work embodies a powerful fusion of cultural influences and artistic movements. Over more than two decades, she has developed a unique style that blends Abstract Expressionism, Impressionism, Art Naïf, Art Brut, and Contemporary Fauvism into deeply emotional, raw, and instinctive paintings. At the core of Natalya’s practice lies authenticity—a commitment to honesty and emotional truth that guides every brushstroke. “People can always feel when something is real,” she says. “I want my work to come from a place that’s true.” Her paintings often explore themes of feminine identity, emotional landscapes, and inner transformation, rendered through semi-abstract forms and expressive color. Influenced by metamodern philosophy, Natalya’s work navigates the tensions between hope and doubt, complexity and simplicity. Her art seeks balance between mind, body, and soul, offering a reflective, mature response to the fragmented world. This ethos is reflected in her expressive floral compositions, vibrant landscapes, and evocative still lifes. Parallel to painting, Natalya’s photography—an early passion since childhood—captures the subtle beauty of everyday life with poetic sincerity. Avoiding staged or artificial scenes, her images act as visual diaries and sources of inspiration, reflecting quiet moments of connection and introspection. Photography and painting form an intertwined practice, each enriching the other. Natalya’s work invites viewers into an intimate dialogue, revealing a language of emotion and presence that is uniquely her own. Her art, held in private collections worldwide, resonates deeply with those who value authentic expression and emotional depth. Discover a world where movement, color, and raw emotion meet in striking harmony—through the eyes of Natalya Mougenot.
