Malene Hartmann Rasmussen
Danish, b. 1973
Danish Malene Hartmann Rasmussen (b. 1973) is educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, the Glas & Ceramics School on Bornholm and the Royal College of Art in London. She works narratively with figurative sculptures. The painters work narratively with figurative sculptures in an absurd and surreal world or beyond reality, which bends the perception of what is real. At first glance, the works may seem excessively cute or almost like toys, but closer examination reveals darker and absurd narratives that balance somewhere between joy and fear. A consistent theme for Malene's art is the forest and mythological creatures that lurk in the dark forests. In contrast to the bright, cheerful and immediate sculptures, it is a dark narrative, where daydreams, memories and childhood nostalgia are woven together into self-created adventures.
