Luca Bellandi

Italian, b. 1962

Luca Bellandi was born in Livorno in 1962. After studying in Pisa and at the Accademia d'Arte in Florence, and after a 'classical' start, he came to American art and the underground scene, collecting public and critical acclaim with his exhibitions around Europe and the United States, confirming his status as one of the most interesting artists on the contemporary art scene. Luca Bellandi directs Since 1994 he has been the artistic director of the Visual Arts sector at the cultural association "Atelier delle Arti" in Livorno, where he teaches painting and drawing. He had a solo exhibition at the MUMI Museo Michetti in Francavilla in 2007. Clothing as a symbol, making a person's history, distinguishing races and nationalities... Luca Bellandi's artistic research is intertwined with the discovery of an America yet to be explored, the land of post-modern man's feelings. Luca Bellandi finds in everyday life and in nature a type of painting that makes gesture and colour the most intense expression of an intimate way of feeling. His latest artistic period condenses the essence of his work, which synthesises painting and writing, uniting different historical times. Figures are deliberately excluded, their stories are told by what they wear, what they use, through the objects that define them.
